Back To The Future with Irina Werning

Meet Irina Werning - a little obsessive, but at the same time so passionate and thoughtful. She writes on her website of this work: "I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today... A few months ago, I decided to actually do this. So, with my camera, I started inviting people to go back to their future."

I was introduced to Irina by Miss James, and keep in mind that many of the original photographs date back 20+ years! What an amazing project.

My favourite is the girl in the brown dress, next to the pillar. Maybe one day I'll create some of my own - I'm inspired as hell! It makes your mind tick... I think that no matter how much we grow and change and experience in the big, bad world, there's always that little person inside of us playing in Dad's workshop, wearing one tiny pink gumboot, with the other little socked foot in the mud.

Some of her other work also worthy of note:

Happy Thursday, you!

Memories For a Cloudy Day, To Make the Bad Things Go Away!

This is so sweet - Sportsgirl has an online PHOTO BOOTH! I love photo booths... they represent whimsicality, fun and lots of laughs. I'm over the moon: there is an original black and white photo booth just down from where I'll be living on Chapel St... for two dollars your get four little vintage prints, all in a strip, and I've got a feeling that every single one of my friends will be captured there. They actually have no choice in the matter. Go here for your own little snapshots of old-school charm!

10 WEEKS TODAY

Yep, you heard me right. Ten weeks and I'll be all packed up and ready to go. You won't even recognise me! But you'll feel like you somehow know me better than ever... because I'll be in a place I'm somehow meant to be.

Tattoos, Owl Lifestyle, Babies, Job Applications.

I am sure I'm most productive at night time. This week has been strangely out of the norm with the Boy on night shift - one he rarely has to cover, fortunately. He starts at 10pm and gets home at 6:30 the next morning. I've been staying up late and having a ball... It's alright for me, I don't have to get up til 8:30 most mornings. I love my shifts at work.

We went to Rockhampton on Tuesday to get our new tattoos and T's sleeve drawn up. Haylee took a real interest in his ideas and told us to call in two weeks to check on her progress. Then we ducked into her studio and got our best friend tattoos done. I got a blue classic diamond on my finger and the Boy got one outlined in black, behind his right ear. They look so good, and I'm particularly proud of my foray into the very visible hand tattoo area. I've really taken the plunge now! No more tiny ink... the next one is going to be a big job and I've got some really sweet ideas.

*Oh goodness, I have to squash this is in, but while we were in the City we went and saw the new movie Sanctum in 3D. Wow. I had a dream just like this once, before I even know what cave diving was, and it totally freaked me out. This Aussie movie just flogged the nail on the head. It hit every single nerve at the same time, was action packed, and the Australian actors were unbelievable. You need to see this film.

I've now applied for two main jobs in Melbourne - one at Flight Centre as an entry level travel agent, and my love letter to Tweek was posted on Thursday. Wouldn't it be funny if it arrives on Valentine's Day - Monday? I didn't even think of that. How clever... wish I could take credit for that... But the exciting news is that I've already heard back from Flight Centre, and they want to hold a telephone interview with me later this month. What a huge encouragement, to hear back from such an exciting prospect so soon and so positively. That made me feel just great! I'm still applying for other jobs this week.

My best friend with the baby about to appear is very close. 7 days til her due date. All of us at work have placed bets... with some already folding as she gets closer and closer. She's gone down to Bundaberg to wait it out - that's where she'll be having it. My bet is for the 21st (that's my birthday, but in July) and that it will be a boy. Wish me, and K, luck!
(footnote: I think somehow she'll want more luck than I, when it comes to the baby department!)

Anyway, my current mood is: generally on top of everything. My house is organised, my job is going really well, the Boy and I are happy and I'm mostly on top of my funds. My bank account isn't creeping up any where near as quickly as before (now that I live by myself I have to pay double rent), but the important thing is - it's CREEPING. I've had to buy a few unexpected things to get ahead, such as stationary and postal supplies for job applications, airway membership for cheaper flight deals, more internet for more job browsing and a teeny bit herbal entertainment... but this will level out in the long run. I'm confident I've planned sufficiently, now I just need to have faith in myself. I think this is the biggest issue I have at the moment!

Anyway, I go. Thanks for tuning in. More to come shortly kiss kiss hug hug.

Smok-edy Jigg-edy Kiss-elly Oo

This week has been a huge one already. I spent my whole two days off getting my CV in pristine order so I may commence to apply for jobs in the Melbourne. Let the finger crossing begin! This is the part I hate the most about this whole operation - the applying for things. I have one hundred percent control over how much I save, when I decide to leave my job here, when I pack up my house and when I go... but this applying business? I have no control over that. I'm a little autumn leaf being tossed around in the big city of Melbourne, it's daunting work force and housing. I know I want to be there... but I don't know for sure yet just where I'll end up.

Oh well, just relax. What's meant to be, will be!

There's this one place in Melbourne that is my biggest haunt ever. I use the term loosely, because I'm not yet a true, honorary Melbournian... but I've been back there many times with my boyfriend, my mum, my siblings and my best friends. Its just the best. The coffee is insane, the food is just delicious and simple, and the service! The people that work there are just so cool. The owner dude is Irish, and when he comes to get your order, he just plops right down at your table like you've been friendies forever. Perhaps to some uptight individuals this would seem like an invasion of some kind of personal bubble... but to me - this is a friendie for life! The place is Tweek, and it's on Bridge Road, just down from The Vine hotel.

So as you may be able to tell... I've developed a bit of a crush on dear Tweek, and have been dreaming of working there since the day I first stepped inside. That said - I've written a love/cover letter, to some description, which I intend to post in an envelope with my CV and little pink hearts that fall out when the package is opened. I really want a job there... maybe, just maybe, they'll have a small opening and I can be a barista again!

Otherwise, I think all my plans are so far on track. My mind has been in overload the past few days... thinking about mail re-direction and changing addresses, applications, tidying in preparation to pack and spending invaluable time with everyone here that I love. I don't think that, at this stage, there's a lot more I can or need to do... except spend as little money as possible.

Oh, PS, if anyone would like to give me house warming/going away presents, there's this cute dome kettle and queen-size cupcake quilt cover set at Target, both of which I really love but can't justify the spending for right now. So there people - don't trip over each other! xx

Nights at Home...

A funny, ice-cream-milo-and-milk weeknight at home... and experimentation with headscarves. This is not a post on my fashion blog for a reason!

Little Blue House

Boo! Long time no post. I'm sorry but you'll have to suck that up. Don't fret though, because as a little treat I'm going to go all Selby on your ass and post some pictures of...

THE BLUTACK HOUSE
And yes, it's very blue. I live in RENTAL, ok, so it's not mine to paint.

The Kitchen Sink

Please note my awesome towels through the window. Nice clean sink (sorry - poor quality)

That's right - they're my kitchen shelves. Removed glass sliders for convenience.

ALF cup (special mention), and sweet blackboard. MY kitchen, one day, will have full walls of blackboard.

My fridge knows what's important in life.

As you can see, the Kitchen Bed has become rather a permanent fixture.

My Dolls-shelf-book-house. Secret massive crush on this piece of furniture.

I have a million books.
Well, lots.
Book Report Assignment from back when I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper.

My sweet PYE. This is about to be all packed up nice, ready to move. I don't use it too often, for preservation.
The Lounge Room

For comfort - these babies cannot be contested. Best sat on when baked, or very drunk.

Magazines, childhood memories and... the Weed Turtle

The entrance to the Cave

Mm incense, and kid friendies. We were kids in high school, no?

Collage by my bestie Bop. Made for my 17th birthday. Love you Bop xx

Dark Bathroom

Sweet Mug

Doily (for assistance in keeping cupboard door closed) and sweet bath towel.

My delicious scarves (how I love thee so)

Polished Polish (this is not even all of them. Maybe I am a girly Girl)

Outdoor Settee (given to me by the Boy, Christmas '09)

Candle Lanterns also a present - Melbell, my 21st

Gnomey <3

Full FRONTAL!

Images by Me, with love.

One of my best friends is three and a half weeks off popping a baby out! I'm so excited, and went over there today to catch up, drink coffee and check out their new house. Her tum moves and rolls with the baby and it's so amazing to feel. There's just something about those tums isn't there? People can't help a little pat, no matter how weird they feel the concept is... there's a little alive thing in there?

(or maybe thats just me.)

I thought of SO many things to blog as I was cleaning the house today. If only you could blog straight from your brain to the internet. On second thoughts - actually no, unless the set-up had a foolproof drafting feature. My goodness wouldn't that be a spectacle.

Oh, ok, here you go! I went to the beach with my family last week, for one night and two days. We had fun, except for my eldest brother who is a misery and stayed in the car almost the whole time for petty reasons. I shopped a lot. I found the coolest, beyond floor length, chambray hippie skirt you can imagine - and haven't stopped wearing it. It needs a bit of a wash. But it doesn't matter because it's so HIPPIE. I also discovered a five dollar book sale, emerging half an hour later with forty dollars worth of books (I can feel the weight of those moving boxes stacking up already!), but shipped two of those off to my bestie, Bop, the next day - topics covering Marilyn and Sharks - in which areas she is hugely consumed. So she'll enjoy them sometime this week, hopefully.

Most of the Queensland floods have subsided and their resulting consequences are being attended too, although now poor Victoria is bearing the brunt (I say poor Victoria because, very soon, that will be the state I call home - eep!). My hometown was very lucky and was, for once in it's history, the most desirable place in Queensland to live - due to its lack of severe flood damage. We almost got off scott-free. Actually, no, we were a bit worried about running out of toilet paper after Brisbane went under, but we managed to get by.

I think thats about all. Except that we got baked yesterday and watched Cool Runnings again... that movie will never cease to be the most awesome piece of film that ever graced the planet, I swear. That was cool.

New Cool Stuff.

Hey all! Well in the new year I'm all inspired and fresh; not just cos it's the new year - just cos I've found the most amazing bunch of blogs and things over the last couple of days and they are just blowing my mind. So I've resolved to do a better job on my own bloggies. There are several new things I'll be introducing in the next few weeks, and hopefully they will make visits a heap more interesting for your pretty faces!

So I thought I'd kick off this year with a post of brand new things that I think are cool, ci?

This ridiculously photographic family, headed by the beautiful *miss* James. Well, actually her blog, BLEUBIRD. LOVE.

Can't decide whether or not to add your parents? Follow this simple chart. Cheers Failbook.

This is fucking cool - this girl decided she would buy a 1970's Winnebago and just... drive around America and visit buddies, with her little dog and bike. WHAT UP. That is the coolest ever. Read her awesome (also style) blog here, at Delightfully Tacky. More like... delightfully awesome.

BLING. Need I say more? Oh except... vintage... nice. (img sourced weheartit.com)

Ponchos = Hippie Love. As my buddie Eman would say: An appreciation for the Lifestyle!

Want one! Sweet decals for your Mac here.

Bear Grylls. The next Chuck Norris. YOU WAIT! (my own image)

Hoping you're having a lovely year so far. More to come xx B
